Research Interests

I am a landscape archaeologist with a research emphasis on archaeo-topographical survey and the study of upstanding archaeological features. In the past I have undertaken key roles in major landscape surveys, as at Charterhouse-in-Mendip and Wallingford in the UK, and my more recent work in the southern Brazilian highlands.

My background includes positions with English Heritage and post-doctoral roles at the University of Exeter and Bournemouth University. My research interests include medieval landscapes, monumentality, urbanism and the role of archaeology in informing sustainable living, in terms of subjects such as hydrological management.

Michael is involved with the following projects:

Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA)
