OUHN Heritage Conversation with Prof Luca Zan

Professor Luca Zan is one of the world’s leading experts on the management of cultural heritage. In this talk, he will introduce his recent book, a collection of edited essays about the Arsenale in Venice—one of the most important and least well-managed heritage sites in the world.  Despite occupying a huge proportion of the area of Venice, with a history of 1,000 years and fascinating architectural, scientific, and historical significance, much of the site remains neglected or closed.

The book explores different aspects of the debate about what to do with the Arsenale from the perspective of various stakeholders: heritage professionals, museum curators, academics, and political decision-makers, etc. It offers observations, evidence and comparative examples, in a wide-ranging discussion about the past, present and future of this important heritage site.
