Narratives of disappearing and re-configuring heritage architecture in Japan recap

The juxtaposition of ethereal and material is what characterises the flux of preservation, reconstruction and reconfiguration of Japanese architectural heritage. Dr Wendy Ella Wright introduced us to significant spaces in Japan such as the Temple of the Golden Pavilion to demonstrate the challenge of finding a balance between preserving ancient traditions and materials at all cost and integrating historic structures into contemporary architecture. Her talk provoked a stimulating discussion about heritage, art and change in Japan and elsewhere.
