A future in ruins: Unsettling questions about heritage recap

The final Virtual Heritage Conversation of this academic year attracted a large, diverse and engaged audience and focused on ‘A future in ruins: unsettling questions about heritage’. Lynn Meskell, the author of A Future in Ruins UNESCO, World Heritage, and the Dream of Peace (OUP, 2018) outlined the essence of the book’s argument and engaged in conversation with Ammar Azzouz (Arup, director of Domicide: the killing of home). Ammar and Lynn discussed the power imbalances in the world heritage system past and present, and the challenges of ensuring that peoples, cultures and their futures do not get neglected in favour of monuments and stones.
